Hair… Fearfully & Wonderfully Made

Hair. The stuff that we wash, condition, style, blow dry, cut, curl, straighten, dye, shave, braid, well, let’s just say that it keeps us busy. Did you ever stop to think how much we have of it or how fast it grows?

A blonde, a natural blonde, that is, has an average of 150,000 hairs. A black or brown head of hair averages about 100,000 to 110,000 strands. While a redhead has a thinner head of hair of about 90,000 strands.

Hair can grow at the average rate of ½ inch every month. Considering a head of about 100,000 strands of hair, that makes a total of 50,000 inches of growth in a month…which is almost 9.5 miles in one year! Whew, that’s a lot of growth!

If you live the average (worldwide) human life span of 70.5 years, without growing too thin on top, the hair on your head could grow over 662 miles during your lifetime.
