Taste Buds… Fearfully & Wonderfully Made

You have about 10,000 different taste buds. Most of them are located on your tongue. And they are completely replaced every 10-14 days.

But did you know that a lot of your “taste” has nothing to do with your taste buds? Much of your taste is determined by your nose! The scent of food is carried to your brain through your nose which helps you to “taste” your food. Try holding your nose while eating, and you’ll see this is true.

Your “taste” also has to do with what you see and think. For example, in a colored juice test, 107 participants were first blindfolded and then asked to taste blue-colored, strawberry flavored, juice.

Of the 107, 51% thought it was strawberry flavored juice.  The other participants decided it was blueberry juice (13%), grape (13%) and something else (23%)

When the blindfold was removed and the experiment repeated, only 14% asserted that it was strawberry juice! A full 34% said it was blueberry juice, 27% thought they detected grape flavor and 25% were undecided

Isn’t that amazing! Your sense of taste is much more than your taste buds…which goes to prove again that you are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made.
